This cyanotype print was likely made by an amateur photographer in the 1910s. While the cyanotype process was introduced in 1842 by Sir John Herschel, the process didn’t reach peak popularity until several decades later with the introduction of the hand camera in the late 1880s. Easier to use cameras and roll film allowed a greater number of people to take up photography. Commercially manufactured cyanotype paper was the perfect match as it was also easy to use, requiring only water to process the prints.
