The Central Library’s most notorious chowhound…er, most illustrious gourmand, will soon be retiring from Houston Public Library. Fred Parris, currently in HMRC’s Texas Room and previously with the Business, Science & Technology Dept. for 15 years, is leaving the HPL archipelago at the end of May.
On Friday, May 30th, from 2 to 4 p.m. there will be a send-off party/pig roast for Fred in the 4th floor lounge of the Ideson Building. Copious refreshments will be served, including hot crossed buns, Hartz chicken, and loquats and aromatic pindo palm fruit from Fred’s home orchard. (just kidding about the fruit.; both are out of season, alas.)
All party guests are invited to fill out a piglet entry card and participate in a “boar door” prize drawing. First prize is a copy of Fred’s rare and highly collectible book, All You Can Eat. Second prize is two copies of All You Can Eat. (NOTE: The covers of the second prize “two for one” copies, which have spent the last 15 years in a cardboard box in Fred’s garage, are slightly “foxed” with cat urine and rodent droppings.)
Join us in bidding farewell to this sooey geriatric…, er “sui generis” * member of the HPL menagerie!
