Starting the week of December 24th, you will see a "Floating Desk Assignment" on the schedule for the 9-10 a.m. shift. I want to experiment with lightening the load of reference desk duty. Of course, the only way floating can work is if we all agree to be immediately available when needed by the person assigned to the desk. Or, if you prefer, you can simply be at the desk.
So, if you are assigned to float, please plan to be present in the room the entire time or near a telephone within the TXR.

Perhaps you might want to check out some of the personal paging systems ( http://www.google.com/products?q=personal+pager+system&btnG=Search+Products&hl=en&show=dd&scoring=p )
While some of the cheaper ones are labeled as "being ideal for those in home health care," you may be able to adapt them for your purposes.
